Springs.....Long Sad Goodbye

on an ordinary day were gentle springs
widow begins it's long sad goodbye
the last sweet sweet rain falls

tears weep upon once tender green shoots
now no longer grace the rolling fields
whither these memories of cool mornings dew

suddenly we discover the full weight
of summers sway reckless unruly heat
in a haze of relentless noonday sun

up from this blaze rise the lowly wildflower
summers fearless savior in the scoring maze
green shoots turn brown in their tended rows

yes summer minds not lovely springs tearful plea
hot sweaty rain falls to once ripe fields
where long forgotten wildflowers run free

summers radiant heat reflects and withers lesser charges
yet bluebells sing of forget me nots and
rose mallow grows in barren sultry dirt

flowers in once tamed rows of nasturtiums candy tufts
now run far afield with foxglove and crimson clover
flanders poppies phlox larkspurs all bare the summers fire

wild apples come to fruit in a days span frozen time
slowly ticks away on purple prairie clover with
the oh so sweet william melt together in a steamy thaw

rugged lasting wildflowers grow strong to ripen parched
seared earth surrendering finely to tides of will
fearless this the tiny blue sage waits under winters snows
to feed again sweet new earth of rich black loam

What a feast for the senses! I wish the goodbye were so long here - instead, we woke up, and it had left in the night! Very honest and enjoyable.

I enjoyed the flow in this, the feeling each word brought and the imagery - great job!

I TOTALLY agree with texasblue - this is a veritable smorgasbord of sensory appeal. I love the idea of wildflowrs running free.

Thanks for participating in SIMPLY SNICKERS this week.

Blessings,
Linda

I hate to see spring go. It has become my favorite season.

Reading this, I feel like I tumbled and toppled smack into a gragantuan garden. Dearest Melanie,
I've greatly missed you reading your talent. I've been away from blogland for quite some time. (If you can, come take a peek at a sunset I shot over the water. After too many many years, I returned to the ocean.)

Love,
Gel
